Underground CCTV is a less-than commonly known aspect of underground piping and construction. Most people know what closed-circuit television (CCTV) and its purposes are, so common sense can lead you to know what underground CCTV is – a CCTV camera attached to and monitoring an element underground. The most common use of underground CCTV is to determine and monitor the structural condition of a sewer system.
What exactly does underground CCTV accomplish? Before underground CCTV became the norm for monitoring the integrity of pipes, you would have to pull them out of the ground for inspection. Now, we can use the tractor camera to video record inside the pipe to look for water infiltration, blockages, root mass or anything that can cause the pipe to not function properly. The camera can give a total picture the pipe system no matter how big or small. If the pipe is too small to put the tractor camera down we also have a push camera that we do by hand for pipes that are only a few inches wide.
